amex travel took money from my acct instead of charging the points like it said - american express everyday card

I have a ton of points on amex because of using it frequently. I was told that I could simply book online and that the points would be deducted from my amex account. The hotel I chose was $84 or 10500 points. I booked, and was charged $95. After calling them they said that they could credit me for the points equal to $95 (which ended up being 13000 pts). They said that the hotel i booked was a "pay later", but on THEIR AMEX TRAVEL site, it listed the points and made me enter my card info to "remove points". I have multiple cards with other companies and I have never been so disappointed.
