  • Customer Service American Express rewards

I called the rewards number that I was given from a customer service rep. at A/X and when I called the lady put me on hold for 29 min. After I asked to speak to a supervisor because I was given wrong info regarding my rewards on me card. I have racked up 23000 pints and wanted to transfer to my sky miles acct. she said I could not, I explained to her that I was told differently from the A/X customer service rep. I've been a loyal customer since 1988 and feel so hurt that after holding for 29 min. She comes on the phone and I clearly hear her say hello, I respond hello, and she hangs... More...

  • American Express Took Away Reward Points

Removed my Reward Points I have been a member of American Express since 1981. I fell into some financial difficulty, and did not realize I was in danger of my Platinum Card being cancelled. It was cancelled in January of this year because of an inter collection process. I paid the balance in full, at one point totalling over 60,000.00. I paid all service fees and all interest charges without question, because I knew it was my fault for paying the bill late. But I did pay it all. I called to see about my rewards points that had not been used to pay my bill. They totalled 171,000 points and... More...

  • issue replacement PIN number

Capt Tony M. I had a simple request to issue a replacement PIN for my gold delta skymiles card on Mar. 3, '15. After speaking to 7 representatives with various scattered GLOBAL call centers during an ONE HOUR period it became an exercise in futility with conflicting answers from various agents - rather than speak to a rep I requested a supervisor. The service and bureaucratic computer generated menus were total frustration. American Express is the WORST experience I have encountered with a credit card company -- UNSATISFACTORY!! I rate customer service ZERO More...

  • American Express and Their Customer Service

I have been a customer of American Express for several years. Up to this point I have had no issues with their service. American Express has been no better or worse than the other services I use. I tried to purchase new cell phones on Sunday, March 1, 2015. After placing the purchase with my telephone service provider I received in the form of an email from American Express a "Fraud Protection Alert". At about the same time I received an email from my telephone service provider that my order was on hold. The following Monday morning I logged into the American Express website.... More...

  • Poor Customer Service and Loss of Work

On the 21st of January I took a work lunch break to go and buy my wife her 30th present for the amount of $2,500 and at POS the transaction was declined. A second attempt was made as I am well aware of my account balance and it was also declined. I made a call for the first time to AMEX CS and setup my pin then was waiting for 7.5 minutes and was hung up on. A second call was made and got through to a team member who informed me that the account was under review and they need a specialist to call me back. I explained the circumstances of being at POS and on my work lunch break; I was told... More...

  • Application Nightmare

Last month I applied for an American Express card through CostCo. I have a six figure income and a FICO score of 820. I have multiple credit cards, all with virtually no balances, each paid monthly. I get invitations from Am Ex almost monthly to apply for a card. Application should be a breeze. Nope, nada. First I get an application pending delay. Then they say I have a fraud alert of some kind, again delaying the application. Next they do not have my SSN, once again a delay. Next they do not have my telephone number. Yep, another delay. Now a supervisor of some sort needs to... More...

  • In one Day - 27 charges that were not ours

We have regular AMEX cards and have had no problems. We got Prepaid AMEX card for travel. We were checking our account November 10th and was shocked that it was minus $20.64 and not the $2500 we put in this summer. Discovered 27 charges on October 7th all to Exxonmobile in Florida (we live in California). We have been on the phone almost daily with no resolve. They tell us they will email dispute "form" we must send in writing, but after 5 attempts to get form - no show. We took it upon our selves and sent UPS Next Day (cost of $37) that these are not our charges - we have... More...

  • credit card

American Express may think they are an elite credit card company but their customer service and care of their consumers is the worst. I have been a member since 1987 and most of that time, until recently, was a satisfied customer. But since recent incident involving my credit card management, I think they are horrible with consumer satisfaction. I have seriously considered cancelling but, only out of inconvenience, have not. I know I am just a minor problem with this complaint but it just feels good to vent. I so wish there was some way someone of importance with this credit card... More...

  • Rewards signup

We recently signed up for amex gold with delta sky miles. The deal was if we spend $1000 in the first 3 months we would get 30k miles. The next day we got the same offer in an email but for 50k miles. We called to see if we could get that offer since we just applied and havent even activated the card. They said they could not honor the 50k. Well if they can help us out by honoring that we will not be giving them our business by using the card. Bad business!!! More...

  • overseas call center

i have cancelled my attempts to apply for an american express blue everyday card when i encountered inept customer service from an offshore call center. the several calls i made were conducted with what seemed to be persons to whom english was not a first language. i think a company that calls itself "american" express would use offshore call centers. whatever money they save in lower labor costs be damned.. i will never own an american express card after my totally frustrating and annoying experiences with their foreign call centers. • customer service with reward coupon policy

Costco American Express and reward coupon First off, I did not realize that the reward coupons were attached to February statements. Second, I did not realize they expire in 6 months. I called in to customer service and explained to the Philippino service rep that I did not realize that I had a coupon attached to my February 2013 statement (It was attached to the very last page... page 10) I did not know that coupons were even attached to February statements until opening the 2014 February statement. • They don't want your business

A representative within the cancellation department misinterpreted a conversation in which the phone line was disconnected prior to the end of the call. After that call, I was surprised to find my account closed the next day. I immediately called to have my account reinstated. After much hassle and time, I spoke with Angela Selma, Chief of Customer Service, who informed me that she was unwilling to reinstate the account because she didn't think an error was made. She told me that I would need to write a letter to the executive office to have the account reinstated. This... More...

  • Penalize for making my payment early....

I have been making my payment on the last day of the month for more than a year now, which makes it early. I always pay more than required and frequently pay my balance in full. On May 16th I paid my balance in full, but made a purchase on the 21st, because I paid my balance early I received a late fee charge because of the purchase.....this company doesn't want to keep loyal customers. After talking with a rep...and waiting on hold for 20 minutes I was conveniently disconnected . I called back and explained my issue and was told ya if I hadn't paid early I wouldn't have... More...

  • Credit Card Application Status

Hi All, I would like to share my bitter experience with you all about AMEX. Three months ago I've applied for AMEX credit card, few days later I've received a thank you mail for selecting AMEX and a reference number, which I've mentioned in the subject line. After 15 days they requested me to upload the documents by providing a link and I've done the same but there after there was no response from them. Till now I've called them more than 12 times but each time they used to ask me one or other document. I used to send the same to a given mail id but still it... More...

  • I'm Done With Them!

Member since 99 and have watched the company go downhill lately. Just cancelled my Delta Airlines Platnum card. Straw that broke the camel's back was AmEx's refusal to acknowledge an airline ticket purchase on 12/31/13 towards my 2013 spend limit. I feel I did my part, they refuse budge so I missed the step by $800. Are you kidding me! I'm a customer who for the last several years has spent $60,000 or more on their card and they refuse to accept an airline ticket (Delta none the less) which would make my spend step. So, I've cancelled the card and will be canceling... More...

  • Very poor service

I hold American Express credit card and I must say that I have suffered losses twice because of very poor service by them. And to my utter surprise, the same mistake was repeated in both the instances. difficult to write the whole story but to cut it short, they never care about customers. they are not bothered about the request by customers. I think they feel the customer is not important any more. If this kind of service is provided, better not to go for American Express. More...

  • American Express Customer service and late fees

After being a customer for over 19 years, I cancelled my American Express Card. I mailed a check on the 14th of the month....they claim not to have received it until the 18th...payment was due on the 16th...I asked that the late fee be waived...they refused, I paid the balance, and called back to speak to another representative who informed me that I had already spoken to two other representatives and that they would not waive the fee. They were not nice about it to boot....I guess a 19 year customer means nothing to a company like that...I was a company owner and made many concessions... More...

A few months ago I received a letter that offered me a deal to sign up for the Platinum Card and receive 100,000 Membership Reward Points if I spent $3,000 within the first 90 days of using the Platinum Card. I called the number on the letter, spoke to a Customer Service rep who knew I was a current card member confirmed multiple times that I would receive the promotion even if I had other cards than sent me to another department to cancel my existing Gold Card. • American Express late fee

After 14 years of being a loyal customer, paying on time, I requested to waive the late fee as I was less than 24 hours late as well as the interest fee, since I always spend a lot of money every month with American Express. I was told they were unable to that since over 12 months the fee had been waived. I called them on 28 December- it's a new year and I spent over $38,000 with the card in 6 months. • 14 years a loyal customer and never a late payment

I've been an American Express customer for almost 14 years and have paid like clockwork. Back in April of 2013, I inadvertently forgot to make a payment...which I remembered to do so a couple of days later. I get a letter in the mail stating they're raising my APR from 10% to 27%. I call AMEX and they say it's an automated letter that goes out and they'll go ahead and change my APR back since I've been a loyal customer. • BlueBird

On December 18th I tried to place an online order for Best Buy. After several tries to place my order, my card would not go through. I then tried another website to place an order. My card was declined. I then went to check my bank account and noticed I only had 158.00. This was very strange due to me just getting paid on this day. I then checked my transactions to see that not only did blue bird charge my card, but they charged me three times for a total of 604.05. I then called best buy to get this straight. As I was talking to best buy I was told that they have no information on an order... More...

  • I just don't get it

Back in 2010, I applied for the AMEX Platinum Delta Skymiles card. Delta is my preferred airline and the benefits to coupling the two was a no brainer. I spend $3000 in 90 days and I get a bunch of Qualifying Miles on Delta. I applied online the 3rd week of October and was immediately approved for an $8600 line. I ran up about $5000 in the first month, on purpose because the card’s benefits encourage you to do that kind of thing. I hadn’t even gone through 1 billing cycle, or at least I hadn’t even had a payment deadline come and go, when on December 7th, I went to... More...

  • Gift Card

Two weeks ago I received an American Express gift card for my birthday. As luck would have it, I misplaced it after only a few days. (I never even used it). One of the perks of an American Express gift card is that they offer free replacement of lost or stolen cards. I called the same day that I realized it was missing. I gave the customer service representative all the information I had and was told that I would be contacted by someone within 10 business days. After not hearing anything for 10 days, I called again. • The end of 31 years of a Relationship

After 31 years, most of which was Platinum, I missed a payment. I was traveling most of August, and had advised my wife not to use the card, and to switch to the Capital One for her expenses. Next thing I know, I am at day 61. I get a phone call. (not an email, or a letter) from "precancellation" department. I advise I was unaware that my wife was making charges, and I would take care of it immediately. That was on a Saturday. On Monday I transferred 3000.00 to Amex to cover the late part of the bill and the current part of the bill. I get a letter 15 days later informing... More...

  • An inefficient policy to capture the "good" consumers

Hello, I recently applied for an American Express and got approved. When I received the card with the conditions, not only were very different as stated in their website, but they also gave a very low credit limit. I was very disappointed so I decided to close the account without activating the card. After 2 weeks I realized that I could have gotten a higher limit after 60 days so I asked to be reinstated. They denied me without using the same criteria as I applied. Unbelievable, more considering that I have a high FICO and I always have paid on time. They are not good in retaining people... More...

  • AMEX Nothing but Lies

This is a different form of complaint. I applied for a position with AMEX in the UK. They were not prepared to conduct a formal interview made derogatory statements about their language departments and towards me being an American. I complained and they conducted a unilateral investigation of which I was not even aware of. Of course they came up with a bunc of BS and closed the case. I assume the way they treat applicants they will treat their customers no different. Did I forget to mention one comment made by the interviewer. What a day I had fighting with American Express. My card had plenty of open credit. I wanted to take $100 cash advance. They told me that was fine. They gave me a new pin. I tried the pin and it didn't work on the card. They emailed me another pin. Didn't work. They asked me what pin I wanted. I told them it didn't work. • AMEX billing for COSTCO charges

My issue with AMEX credit card is the sneaky billing system-or the sneaky way AMEX presents its data. It seems that they rely entirely on billing cycles and do not show a register of charges and payments in real time sequence. Like so many reviewers, I pay my bill (Costco) in full each month PROVIDED I can figure out what exactly is my balance due. I cannot get a clear match between charges and credits for payments. I have opened a complaint regarding a payment I made by check in July which does not show up anywhere, as AMEX drags a false unpaid bill total into Septembe. The system is... More...
