  • Late Fee

I was charges a $27 late fee for missing the payment by 2 days and Customer Service told me the reason I gave them was not good enough to reverse the charge? I usually pay as soon as the bill arrives, I always pay the full balance and they will cut me no slack the first time in 3 years that I am 2 days late? They did tell me that they are reasons they will reverse the charge but honest is not one of them? More...

  • American Express

Recently opened up a "Premier Rewards American Express Gold Card". This card requires you to pay off your balance each month and earn points along the way. The first month our bill was over $8,500 and was of course paid in full before the due date. Half way through the second month our card was blocked at $4,000 and I was told to make a payment before the due date to have the card unblocked. We spoke to four different American Express representative including a "supervisor" named Steven Hancock who was the rudest one of all. They informed us that the "system"... More...

  • American Express is horrible

Am Ex customer service is horrendous. I have been a member since 2001 and hate them. It took me from March to JUNE to finally get someone to speak with me on a "late charge" I incurred by paying my bill early. I spoke with B Harti on 6-9-15, she was very accommodating and removed all the charges AMERICAN EXPRESS added because I paid early and a supervisor would not call me back! She forgot to remove a $5.39 interest fee (just an over sight on her part) so AMEX charged me $27.95 interest fee on this. I pay my bill in full for 14 years now, and I pay too early and have been going... More...

  • Honor your promise

I don't know since when American Express has such a horrible customer service, even the supervisor was terrible. I was told that American Express doesn't need to be responsible for what their employee told their customers. If that's the case, then there is no need for anyone who is from American Express and will resolve this case to read the followings. Here is the issue. I applied for an American Express Business Platinum card back in May. I called to apply for that as I'm not sure if I'm eligible for the sign up bonus, which was 150,000 points after $20,000... • Horrible customer service American Express

My card had frudulent activity. American Express informed me of this. I have been waiting for a replacement card for two weeks. I have spoken with representatives in Indian and the Phillipines who lied about when the replacement card would be received. The manager in the U.S was a speed talker, curt and indifferent. I have been an American Express card holder for years. I am investigating another card company because this service has been so nightmarish. Shame on the management of American Express. They clearly do not value customer service at all. More...

  • Plenti signup is a mess

I am trying to register and combine three Plenti cards we ended up with (two from Rite Aid and one from Macy's). Your phone staff seems unable to do it. They say I need three phone numbers, one for each card, and insist we have to provide a date of birth. I will give a date of birth if you guarantee you won't be hacked. This could have been set up quite simply with an online form where multiple cards could be entered. Instead, it's turning into a huge waste of time, for both me and your staff. More...

  • Won't Cancel cards

I purchased three American Express PASS cards for my daughters a few years ago. In January their computer had a glitch that cause the cards to be loaded up to 5 times per day without my permission. After calling multiple times, speaking to many employees, supervisors, etc I finally (1 month later) had the money credited back to me. I told them I wanted the cards cancelled immediately. The cards still show that they are suspended online with the same zero balance since February. I told the customer service rep I want written verification that the accounts are closed. • Incredible incompetence

Since AMEX is used by the European Commission for travel arrangements (nobody is happy about it, they are renowned for their incompetence) one just investigates flights and hotels oneself and tells them what to do), my Vienna-Hamburg return flight was managed by Amex. But I decided to change the return flight on my flexible (i.e. far more expensive) ticket. Called the carrier, Airberlin on May 31, their not too competent staff told me that Amex, being the travel agency, had the first call on changes. But genereally, there would be no problem changing my flight and no charges. But contact... More...

  • Issues with Amex Platinum Service

I tried to book a flight through Amextravel.com. The airline I wanted to fly was not listed in the options. When I called Customer service I spoke with a supervisor named Pat who informed me that although she was able to find the flight/airline named XL Airways out of France they must charge me to book it over the phone. If it was avail online there is no booking fee. Her and Amex's inability to waive the booking fee for the three tickets I attempted to purchase as an exception in an instance where I have no choice but to book over the phone or book elsewhere is ridiculous. April 25/2015 rented a car from Thirfty through American Express Miles, waited in line for more than two hours to do a transaction that takes 10 minutes. In the line was travellers with infants and an elderly couple. During our two hour wait one of the two ticket agents went to break leaving only one person, what customer service! • The Worst Ever (Cannot Even Call It Customer Service)

Can you imagine a customer "service" team so awful that they do not even have the capacity to move a check mark made 30 minutes ago to an offer from one card to the other, even with the good reason that they are closing the card with the offer linked to it due to no longer being a Costco member? Unbelievable lack of customer service, stupid scripts by phone and by chat, staff that does not even understand how offers work in the first place, (I figured it out in 10 minutes) even from a manager, that solved nothing. Removed my Reward Points I have been a member of American Express since 1981. I fell into some financial difficulty, and did not realize I was in danger of my Platinum Card being cancelled. It was cancelled in January of this year because of an inter collection process. I paid the balance in full, at one point totalling over 60,000.00. I paid all service fees and all interest charges without question, because I knew it was my fault for paying the bill late. But I did pay it all. Capt Tony M. I had a simple request to issue a replacement PIN for my gold delta skymiles card on Mar. 3, '15. After speaking to 7 representatives with various scattered GLOBAL call centers during an ONE HOUR period it became an exercise in futility with conflicting answers from various agents - rather than speak to a rep I requested a supervisor. American Express may think they are an elite credit card company but their customer service and care of their consumers is the worst. I have been a member since 1987 and most of that time, until recently, was a satisfied customer. But since recent incident involving my credit card management, I think they are horrible with consumer satisfaction. I have seriously considered cancelling but, only out of inconvenience, have not. • Rewards Taken Away

I recently turned in my notice to my employer, Fresenius Medical Care. As a result, they chose to terminate my employment on October 3rd, along with my corporate AMEX card. I had spend my own money to sign up for the rewards program, and went to utilize my points. Unfortunately I was told that since my employer took too long to reimburse me with over $10,000 so I could pay off my bill, and the card was already cancelled that I would not be awarded these points, which would account for nearly $100 in rewards. Using American Express Travel to make hotel reservation, I found that the the banner of "low price guarantee" above rates do not necessarily apply to the rate they are showing -- misleading since fine print effectively negates that guarantee -- and when asked, response from agent on phone was that the banner is not associated with the rate.... I recently received a letter from American express. I've been a customer for over 10 years... In that time I've never been late on payments and have an American express blue card. The apr was great at 9.99%. What I got in the letter is the reason why I will never do business again with American express. They wrote to inform me that they would be increasing my apr to 14.99%...and the reason is amusing. Because most cards are charging similar interest on accounts...that is why they're increasing my apr...not because of anything I've done to adversely effect my credit...just because other cards are charging the same. I will never use your cards again! I'm going to cash out my rewards points, pay off my cards, and do everything in my power to make sure no one I know ever signs up with your company. I work for a financial institution and believe me my clients will all hear about this and I will advise them against using your car many for their personal or business needs.

AMERICAN EXPRESS IS THE WORST!!! I have been a member since 1987 and their company is just not the same. DO NOT USE THEM. Their customer service is awful. I do a significant amount of business and personal shopping at Costco, and have an AMEX gold card that I try to use exclusively for all my shoping to maximize on collecting points. I will not be using the AMEX card much anymore now that AMEX and Costco Canada have severed their agreement. Although I would prefer to use my AMEX Card, It makes more sense to replace my Amex card with my Visa card to consolidate my point collection. Its unfortunate that Costco is not willing to accept multiple types of cards.

It appears there is no customer service for loyal customers.

I had been an American Express Platinum cardholder for 25 years. I had signed on to an agreement for a company to supply services for a year. I later discovered the company was a fraud. They were no longer the licensed company they claimed to be and had entered into with me in a contract. i contacted American Express to explain to them that this company had been a fraud and that their corporation no longer existed. American Express did nothing but write letters and forward the responses. They claimed that there was nothing else they can do. I imagine they still do business with this fraudulent company.
What a joke AX is!!!!

Today 2/12/2013 I have not received my money or refund . I. Gave them a call and a guy over the phone told me sorry mem" I. Will have to place an order because for your refund, and is there anything I could help you with. It will take about 15 to 20 days for the refund to come through.. I have been with american Express for over 30 years. I reecently telehphoned them to ask if it would be in order to pay my monthy due two weeks late, to whcih I was told 'no problem'. I subsequently found that a 'late payment' had been recorded with the credit agencies, as to which, if I had been warned, I would have made the payment on time. When I complained I received a very rude and authoitarian letter from a woman referring me to the agreement. I telephoned her senior, who agreed that this should not ahve been done. After receivng another letter from the obviously very angry woman, I tried to contact the senior again three times, but who ignored my comunications and refused to come to the phone. I have now referred the matter to the Financial Ombudsman and am writing to the CEO in the US.

I was a card holder of American express "Blue."I had never been late on my payment and always paid at least 80% of the balance. In March 2009, I paid off the entire balance and with out warning, American express canceled my account. When I called to see why I was told that after checking my credit history that my balances on a few other accounts were high. American express can keep their card But their actions will lower my credit score.

It's nice not to be alone, but it's really sad that AMEX can do whatever to customers and there is no recourse. I haven't been a customer as long as many of you; just since 2006. My credit line wasn't as high either; just $1200.00. But I always paid on time if not before time and mostly more than the previous month's balance because of the low limit and I had liked being able to manage something in my life. I went to use the card to rent a car to see my kids last weekend and when I got to the counter the poor clerk had to tell me my card was canceled. Not declined - because I had just made a $500.00 payment to cover the travel I was anticipating. AMEX didn't even have the decency to inform me ahead of time so at least I could prepare. I understand they have every right according to their "agreement" but my financial situation didn't get the way it is overnight and AMEX has definitely been aware of its status the entire time. I depended on that card and it sucks that consideration can't even be given on a humane basis.

I HAD been a member of american express for over ten years with three acoounts until October 08

I have never been late, always paid my balances off and in late september I received an e-mail telling me that they had either lowered my credit lines or removed my ability to pay over time. now keep in mind one of my accounts had a $27,000.00 line of credit and they lowered it to $500.00 and I won't go into detail about what horrible things they did to my other accounts but needless to say none of my accounts are worth using now nor would I.

It's sad to hear that they are laying off people but I hope everyone stops use there cards and boycotts them!!!!!

It would bring me much pleasure to hear that they are filing for bankruptcy because all of us that did absolutely nothing to them but pay our bills and be loyal to them brought them to their knees!!!

I recently tried to make reservations for a hotel in Manhattan, but was cut down by some frustrated supervisor who thought he was talking to his mother. I am a custormer for a hundred years and donot need to be bullied by this ignoramous.
